Refund Policy
When Writ issues refunds, how to request one, and how prepaid credit is handled.
Effective September 21, 2026 · Version 2.0
This Refund Policy explains when charges made through Writ can be refunded or credited. It supplements our Terms of Service. The short version: plans are billed in advance and are not refunded; usage is billed as it happens and is not refunded; we correct our own mistakes. Nothing in this policy limits a right you have under consumer-protection law that cannot be waived (see the last section).
1. Subscriptions
- Subscription plans (Starter, Pro, Growth, Scale) are billed in advance for each monthly or yearly period and renew automatically until cancelled.
- Subscription fees are non-refundable, in whole or in part, including for unused time, unused included usage, unused AI allowance, or a period in which you did not use the Service.
- Cancelling stops the next renewal. Your plan stays active until the end of the period you already paid for, then your account moves to the Free plan. No prorated refund or credit is given for the remainder of the period.
- Upgrades take effect immediately and are charged a prorated amount for the rest of the current period. That amount is non-refundable.
- Downgrades, and switching from yearly to monthly billing, take effect immediately. The unused part of your current plan becomes a credit applied to your next subscription invoices. It has no cash value and is never refunded or paid out, including if you later cancel.
- Pausing a plan stops billing for the pause and moves your account to Free limits from the moment you pause. The remainder of the period you already paid for is not refunded or credited.
2. Yearly plans
A yearly plan is paid once for twelve months at a discount. It is non-refundable, with one exception for your first yearly purchase on an account:
- you ask for it within 14 days of that first yearly charge, and
- during those 14 days you used no more than one month of the plan's included usage and AI allowance.
If both are true, we refund the yearly price minus the monthly list price of the same plan (you keep one month of the plan) and your account moves to the Free plan. Yearly renewals, plan changes within a yearly term, and any later yearly purchase on the same account are not eligible. Cancelling a yearly plan stops the next renewal; the current year is not refunded.
3. Included usage, AI allowance and rollover
- The usage and AI allowances included with a plan are part of the subscription. They haveno cash value, cannot be transferred, and are never refunded or paid out.
- Allowances reset each month. Where your plan rolls unused usage over, the rolled-over amount is available for the next month only and is lost if the plan is cancelled, downgraded to Free, or paused.
4. Prepaid balance and credits
- Funds you add to your prepaid balance are a credit toward future usage, not a deposit. They are non-refundable once added (except as section 10 provides), cannot be withdrawn or transferred, and do not expire while your account is active and in good standing.
- If you close your account, or it is closed for a breach of our terms, any remaining balance is forfeited.
- Promotional credit (for example referral rewards) has no cash value, is never refunded or paid out, and may be removed if it was obtained in breach of the program rules, such as self-referral or duplicate accounts.
5. Usage charges
Metered usage (cloud runs, browser time, crawled pages, monitoring checks, residential bandwidth and AI beyond your allowance) is charged for work actually performed and isnon-refundable. This includes runs that did not produce the result you wanted because of the target website (it was down, changed, blocked the run, or showed a check), your inputs, credentials or configuration, or a workflow you built or installed. A run that fails because of a fault in Writ's own managed infrastructure is not charged.
6. Our mistakes
- Billing errors (a duplicate charge, a charge after a completed cancellation, or an amount different from the published price) are refunded to the original payment method once confirmed.
- Platform faults that caused you to be charged for work that did not happen are credited to your prepaid balance once confirmed, not refunded in cash.
- Report either within 30 days of the charge, with the run ID or charge details. Later reports are not eligible.
7. Service availability
Outages, maintenance and degraded performance do not give rise to refunds or credits, unless a service level agreement signed with you (Enterprise) says otherwise.
8. Marketplace
Marketplace listings are free to install. Running one consumes usage like any other cloud run, under the rules above. If a listing does not behave as described, report the run from your dashboard; where a Writ platform fault caused a failed run, its charge may be credited to your balance.
9. Chargebacks
Please contact us before disputing a charge with your bank. When a chargeback is opened we may suspend the account until it is resolved. If the charge was valid, the disputed amount and any fees our payment provider charges us remain owed.
10. Your rights under consumer law
If you contract with us as a consumer, you keep any right that the law of your place of residence gives you and that cannot be waived by contract. Where such a right conflicts with this policy, the law prevails to the extent required. In particular:
- EU, EEA and UK consumers may withdraw from a purchase within 14 days of it, without giving a reason, by telling us clearly, for example by email tosupport@usewrit.app. At checkout you ask us to start right away, so if you withdraw you pay for what was provided until you told us: for a plan, the share of its price for the days elapsed; for a balance top-up, the part you used. We refund the rest to the original payment method within 14 days of your notice. The right ends once the service has been fully provided.
- Québec consumers keep their rights under the Consumer Protection Act, including those on distance contracts. When we change the terms of a paid plan you hold, you may cancel it without cost and receive the prepaid part of the current period you will not use, as set out in section 13 of the Terms of Service.
11. How to ask
Open a ticket from your dashboard or emailsupport@usewrit.app with the charge date, amount and, for a run, its ID. Approved refunds go to the original payment method and may take 5 to 10 business days to appear, depending on your bank. For how usage and your balance work, seebilling and wallet in the docs.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Refund Policy. Material changes are posted here with a new effective date and version and apply to charges made after that date. See all policies in thelegal index.
